My grandmothers, Leela and Deevki, were married before they turned fifteen. No one taught them to count, so they taught themselves. The life laid out for them had one purpose: to serve others. Dreaming was not part of it.

I am the eldest daughter of that line, and the first in it to board a plane, to immigrate, to go to graduate school, to build a business of my own. Each first meant rewriting a story I had inherited, and recalibrating when the old map ran out. None of it was mine alone. It was built on their resilience.

OTO Design was my first creative child. For fifteen years I have designed spaces in Germany, Indonesia, South Asia, and the American West, the last decade under OTO’s name. I work from ancestral vernacular knowledge, reinforced by modern technology, and I treat land as a living force with its own say in what gets built. Every project begins with one question: what does a space need to feel like for your nervous system to settle, so you can come back to yourself?

That question did not stay inside the walls. For most of my life, my spiritual practice lived only among my closest community. Colonization made it unsafe for my family to be who we were, so for generations we kept our ways quiet. Unlearning that silence led me to Cosmic Desi, where I help people build the same refuge within themselves: to recognize their gifts, their ancestral blessings, and what stands in their way. Astrology is how I read the patterns a life is already making. Deep listening, to people and to land, is how I help them build.

My name was given to me by my family’s spiritual leader. Sakkshi means witness: the one who sees expansion in herself and makes room for it in others. I have spent my life growing into it.

Leela and Deevki were never given room to dream. I build what they were never allowed to imagine, and I believe they build it with me. What I want others to know is what my life has taught me: we already carry what we need to create the lives we imagine. I want to help build the spaces and the resources that let us sustain them.

If you’re ready to build a refuge in your home or in your life, I’d love to hear from you.
